ATHLETICS LOSE ALL-STAR
SHORTSTOP TO ST. PAUL Three-Time CVL All-Star Derek Jacobson Moves To St. Paul League 080210
Lakeville will have some big shoes to fill for the 2011 season with the recent loss of perennial CVL all-star shortstop Derek Jacobson to the St. Paul Capitals. A recent move to Minneapolis, coupled with a daily work schedule in the cities, made the move a natural fit for Jacobson, especially now with the extremely high price of gas. Typically the Athletics lead-off hitter, Jacobson was known by teammates as "DJ" and was truly liked by all in the dugout. A solid bat and an outstanding fielder, Jacobson will sorely be missed. Even though other CVL teams will be bidding "good riddance," the Athletics thank him for his invaluable and talented contributions to the team, which includes his exciting on field play, but also his valued camaraderie and friendship as a three year member of the Lakeville club. Good luck in 2011 with the Capitals DJ!
2010 YEAR IN REVIEW;
PERSPECTIVE ON 2011 SEASON
The 2010 Athletics season started with great promise, with one of their deepest rosters ever, but the loss of key players hampered the team's efforts to reach its anticipated potential. The upside to the absence of some meant that new players got to step forward and show what they could do on the field. While hitting was down for some, others rose triumphantly to the occasion, providing solid at bats with an expectation of good things for next season. Lakeville has much to look forward to in 2011 with a core of solid veterans and seasoned 2010 newcomers. (Read More...)
BARTHEL HEADS TO THE BOOTH FOR
THE 2011 SEASON
Barthel
holds a true passion for the game and is very enthusiastic
about taking the reigns as the official announcer for the
Athletics. Coach Doug Johnson said, "We're thrilled to have
Jeff in the booth for us in 2011 and look forward to his new
role with the team." The Athletics say, welcome back Jeff!
ATHLETICS WEBSITE GETS FRESH
LOOK FOR 2011 The Athletics website has received a facelift for the 2011 season. Version 3.0 is a tribute to the veterans, those that have been with the team the longest. To be perfectly honest, we wanted to feature the veterans from the field, as well as the pitching staff, however it is the three fielders that have been with the team the longest. The trio of Brent Johnson, Josh Storm and Mark Berger have been with the team for a combined 31 years. Only Johnson has been with the team since its inception in 2000, with Storm and Berger joining in 2001. The pitching veterans are right-handers Trent Larsen and Jake Hauck, joining in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Both players are CVL all-stars, Hauck twice voted and Larson newly elected in 2010. Both will be mainstays for the 2011 rotation. This year's website will feature only the latest game story on the front page, with past games archived on separate pages for faster load times. The website also features a new scoreboard which will post the most recent game played. This will be the 12th year of play for Lakeville's only men's town team. |
