Athletics Short On Pitching And Offense In Father's Day Road Loss

The Athletics traveled across the mighty Mississippi into Wisconsin for a game in Bay City against the Bombers on father's day, but Lakeville dads didn't get the gift they were hoping for. Many players didn't make the trip East for the dad's day season finale with the Bombers. As a result, Lakeville was not only short on players, they were extremely short on pitching.

New pitcher Ben Elliott made his debut for Lakeville, but couldn't get comfortable on the mound as he walked seven and hit three Bombers in 2 1/3rd innings of work. Bay City reached him for three hits and six runs, but three defensive errors in the 2nd didn't help him at all as he tossed 80 pitches in his brief stint on the mound. Lakeville quickly found itself down by six at the end of the 3rd inning.

Bay City added another run in the 4th and two in the 5th, before Lakeville could plate it's first run in the 6th.

Second baseman Justin Hahn led off the 6th by reaching 1st base on an error by the catcher who couldn't catch his pop-up near the 3rd base side of the plate. One fly-out and strike out later, shortstop Nick Daniels pounded a stand up double to the left center gap, scoring Hahn for the Athletics lone run of the day. A 6-3 groundout later ended the inning with Daniels stranded and a 9-1 Bay City score.

Third baseman Kevin George picked up a single in the 7th, but it would be the last hit of the afternoon for the Athletics.

The Bombers added one run each in the 7th and 8th as they closed the game out early on the ten-run rule and an 11-1 win.

The Athletics also had one other pitching debut on Sunday as Nick Daniels threw 3 2/3rds innings, scattering four hits with four strike outs. Daniels threw extremely hard and showed great promise for the Athletics pitching staff.

Derek Hahn and Kevin George both pitched an inning for Lakeville as the team struggled through a short day of pitching.

Right fielder Jeff Farr makes the catch in the 4th inning.

Defensive plays of the game came from the hot corner as Brent Johnson made two nice plays to end the 1st and 2nd. Replacement Kevin George made another solid play at 3rd in the 4th inning and then a nifty L5-3 double play in the 6th. Nick Daniels had a nice 4-6 put out in the 5th.

Bay City out-hit Lakeville 8 to 2 on the day.

Collecting hits for the Athletics were...

  • Kevin George 1 for 3
  • Nick Daniels 1 for 4, RBI

Lakeville's next game is Monday night at White Bear Lake at 8:00.
