It was a tough night on the mound
for Athletics pitching as the Savage Outlaws took advantage of
five wild pitches to score five runs in a 6-1 win over
Lakeville. Jeff Farr started for the Athletics and was clearly
bothered by a very short mound and had a tough time with his
landing foot. The 6'6" right-hander could not get comfortable
with his plant foot and it clearly affected his delivery as he
struggled with his mechanics for the first four innings. In
monitoring Farr's stride, his plant foot never hit the same
spot as he fought to get comfortable with his delivery.
Alimagnet is a home field for the Outlaws so it obviously
didn't affect their pitching as much as it did for the
extremely tall right-hander Farr.

Savage scored three of its runs
directly off wild pitches with two more runs set up by
advancing runners to 3rd on wild pitches. Needless to say it
was a rough night for both Farr and his catcher, Derek Hahn.
Farr gave up just two hits in his four innings on the mound,
but allowed six runs due to the wild pitches. Three defensive
behind him didn't help his cause.

Josh Storms smokes a ball to the
right-center gap in the 2nd.
The bigger more obvious component
in the loss was the fact that the Athletics only had a runner
in scoring position three times on the evening, despite having
runners on base every inning except the 6th and the 8th
innings. First baseman Josh Storm was stranded at 2nd after
walloping a double to the right-center gap in the 1st inning.
The next time that Lakeville would see a man at 2nd was the
7th inning.

Mark Berger, "the most interesting
man in baseball" get sets to rip a single in the 4th.
Second baseman Justin Hahn went to
the plate with one out in the 7th and hit a ball to his Outlaw
counterpart who mishandled it for an error. One out later,
left fielder Eric Watts came to the plate and hit a
check-swing roller out of the box, beating the throw to the
bag for a hit, but the ball skipped off the 1st baseman's
glove, with an alert Hahn running all the way to score the
Athletics only run of the night on the error.

Trent Larson pitched the 5th, 6th
and 7th innings, allowing just one hit and no runs in his
three innings of work.

Mark Berger also shut out Savage
by pitching a scoreless 8th with just one hit allowed.

the 8th.
Defensive highlights came from
Josh Storm who made a nice catch in foul territory, and
shortstop Eddie Golom who snared a hot line drive rocket in
the 8th.
Savage only out-hit Lakeville 7
hits to 6 on the night.
Collecting hits for the Athletics
were...
- Derek Hahn 2 for 4
- Eric Watts 1 for 3
- Josh Storm Storm 1 for 4
- Mark Berger 1 for 4, FC
- John Degerness 1 for 4
The Athletics next game will be
Sunday in the first round of the CVL playoffs in Elko at
Fredrickson Field. Lakeville will play Burnsville at 5pm. The
winner of that game will play on Monday, with the loser
playing Tuesday in the double-elimination tournament.

Derek Hahn was 2 for 4 on the
night.

Jon Degerness at the plate in the
9th.
